11 Tips on Renting a Property

  1. Always view the property because what you see is usually what you get.
  2. Always look at clean places, you don't want to be cleaning up someone else's mess.
  3. Ensure that a residential agreement is drawn up between you the tenant and the landlord/agent.
  4. Ensure you get a copy of the signed agreement and the ingoing inspection report.
  5. Check your ingoing inspection report thoroughly and add details that are not noted on the report, and return a copy to your Landlord/Agent within seven (7) days to your inspection.
  6. Always communicate with your property manager, they are working for you.
  7. Make sure that a receipt is issued everytime you pay rent.
  8. Repairs should be bought to the attention to the landlord/agent as soon as possible, always put it in writing to your Agent/Landlord.
  9. When deciding to move out, ensure adequate notice is given and it must always be in writing.
  10. Upon vacating, always leave the property clean and undamaged.
  11. Ask your agent to give you a written rental reference to keep for future renting.
